Gus Daniel Koenig was born February 22, 2019 in Yankton, SD to Daniel and Katie Koenig. He weighed 9 pounds 7 ounces and was 22 inches long. Shortly after birth, he was flown to the Avera NICU in Sioux Falls, SD., where he was later diagnosed with rare cases of Hirschsprung Disease and Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome. On March 1, 2019 he was baptized into the Catholic faith and celebrated communion and confirmation on March 22, 2019. He passed away in his parents arms on April 9, 2019.

Despite his short time on earth, Gus was deeply loved and brought joy and happiness to everyone who met him. Gus will be forever remembered and loved by his parents, Daniel and Katie Koenig; his siblings Mya (4) and Zoe (2); Grandparents, Anthony and Mary Ann Koenig and Rex and Tracy Pfaff; Great Grandmother, Gretchen Hausmann; Aunts, Elizabeth (Troy) Johnson, Martha (Josh) Holstein, Margaret Koenig, and Joni (Jason) Laska; Cousins, Deegan, Mazee and Miri Johnson; Owen and Harper Holstein;  Dusti Jo, Luke and Aspen Laska; Godparents, Darrell and Joann Bentz and numerous great aunts, uncles and cousins. Gus also shared an amazing love and bond with the wonderful staff who cared for him during his time in the NICU.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Fairfax, SD. Burial will be in the St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Fairfax. There will be a rosary & scripture service on Monday at 7:00 PM at the church. Visitation will be one hour prior to both of the services at the church.
