Obituary

Gerald Eugene Kulm, the second son of a family of four born to Rudolph and Clara (Ahlers) Kulm, was born November 23, 1939 at Burke, South Dakota.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Naper, Nebraska where he was a life-long member.
Gerald's boyhood was spent on the Otto Ahlers farm, northwest of Naper.  District # 60 of Boyd County provided him with eight years of grade school.  He graduated from Naper High School in 1957.  After high school he and friends Harvey Dummer and Don Goodman went on an enjoyable trip to the Pacific Ocean.  Later, for a short while, he worked with Harvey as an oil well roughneck.
Gerald enlisted in the Army, serving for 3 years, stationed at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia.  He worked for the Corps of Engineers unit at West Point, New York in grounds maintenance.  He spent one semester at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and then a two year electronics course at Milford, Nebraska.  Following this he worked for Western Union, working in the Red Cloud, Nebraska and Wyoming boarder areas as a microwave tower technician.  After several years with Western he worked brief periods with an electronics firm in Lincoln, Olson Irrigation in Atkinson and tire manufacturing firms in Rockford, Illinois and Denver, Colorado.  Bud and Bob Kunz, owners of Stuart Furniture in Stuart, Nebraska, employed Gerald for 29 years up to the time of his death.  His close relationship with them was like family.  The entire Stuart community looked after Gerald.
Gerald enjoyed music, skiing, swimming and reading.  He was very much a gentleman in every sense of the word.  He had a special love for his nieces and nephews.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.
Survivors include his brothers and sister: Ronald Kulm and wife Arzella of Fairfax, SD; Ralph Kulm and wife Linda of O'Neill, NE; and Genene Sand and husband Raymond of Dallas, SD; step-brothers and sisters: Herman and Betty Neumiller, Esther and Lyle Fuhrer, Louise Zink all of Naper, NE; Paul and Shirley Neumiller of Bonesteel, SD; Lester Neumiller of Fullerton, NE; two aunts: Alma Kulm Thibault and Frieda Ahlers Voll both of California; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
