Obituary

Genevieve Miller came into this world on May 18, 1922 to OW and Amy (Gilbronson) Allum.  She spent her young life on a farm 11 miles south of Burke.  She attended the Allum School for eight years and then went to Burke High School.  She received her GED diploma from Sinte Gileska in 1975.
Genevieve married Everett L. Miller on November 14, 1939 and to this union five daughters were born.  Their first two years of marriage were spent in Colfax, Iowa.  They then returned to South Dakota to live on a farm on Ponca Creek, which was southeast of Burke.  In 1957 the family moved to Burke and Gen worked for Hinzie Drug from August to December of that year.  She then began working as a Nurses Aide at Community Memorial Hospital for the next 28 years.  She also worked with the Home Healthcare for 15 years.
Genevieve later moved from her house into Parkview Manor where she lived for five years.  She later moved into the Winner Regional LTC facility.  She lived there until her death on October 22, 2008.
Gen's time after her retirement, was spent taking care of whomever needed help.  She spent many days and hours taking care of her mom and dad and her daughter, Claudine.  She was always available to help wherever she was needed by the rest of her children also.  She was the best mother that anyone could wish for: very loving and caring and loved her grandchildren dearly.
Gen's hobbies were gardening, bowling, entertaining, her grandchildren, crocheting, crafts, painting, embroidering and going to coffee every morning with her friends.  She was a lifetime member of the Herrick Legion Auxiliary and the Burke VFW Auxiliary and was always ready to donate food for all occasions.  She became a member of the United Methodist Church on March 30, 1986.  She was a very faithful member and believed in God with all of her heart and soul.
Gen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Claudine; her sister, Iris; her brothers: Oscar and Calvin; sisters-in-law: Leona Allum, Mildred Zimmerman and Clara Lunderman; her brothers-in-law, Sam LaFave and Lloyd Zimmerman and one son-in-law, Roger Tol.
Gen is survived by her daughters: Judy Tol of Goodwin, SD; Myrna (Dave) Freeman of Burke, SD; Bonnie (Dick) Dimmick of Harlingen, TX; and Cynthia Gregory of Zimmerman, MN; son-in-law Jim Vosika of Gregory, SD; two sisters-in-law: Marge LaFave of Bonesteel, SD and Irene Allum of Sioux Falls, SD; 11 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.  She will be missed by her family and friends.
