Obituary

Frieda C. Hegge, age 98, went to heaven to join the Lord and her husband on August 22, 2012. She passed away peacefully at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota.

Frieda was born March 22, 1914 to John and Mathilda (Huber) Fode in a sod house on the family farm 12 1/2 miles southwest of Burke. She was the 7th of 10 children, her siblings have

all gone before her. She attended the McCumber school thru the 8th grade. Each of the girls had the experience of "working out" on various farms, helping with the house work, field work and helping with the small children and caring for the mothers with new babies.

She enjoyed all of the experiences of working, but did not enjoy the early 30's which brought the dust storms no one will ever forget.

Frieda married Erven J. Hegge on September 29, 1939 in a double ceremony with Felix Hegge and Dorothy Painter at the parsonage in Paxton, SD. Her favorite past times were spending time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed traveling, games, playing cards and Friday night bingo with her friends at Bingo.

Her main two interests in life were her family and the Lutheran Church. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Carlock on April 19, 1914, and confirmed at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Jamison, Nebraska on May 22, 1926. She joined Grace Lutheran in Burke and seldom missed a Sunday as long as she was able to get there.

In her life Frieda brought joy to those who knew her in many ways. She had a smile that would brighten a room and a laugh that was infectious. She had an optimistic view on life.

Her mother's love knew no bounds, she was an incredible mother and supported her girls and their families in their many endeavors. She worked in the early years at the Burke Bakery, Burke Variety store and Gregory Variety Store. Her last official job was working at the Burke Community Memorial Hospital for 28 years, retiring in 1979. But she kept herself busy by volunteering at the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store.

Frieda is survived by her daughters, Delores (Bob) Carr, Lexington, NE; Irma (Marvin) Zimmerman, Mitchell, SD; two granddaughters: Carol (Chuck) Leininger, Lincoln, NE; Sandy (Craig) Blocker, Lexington, NE; six great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law: Elsie Fode, Donna Fode, Dorothy Hegge and Dorothy Nickerson; many special nieces and nephews who were very close to their Aunt Frieda and a very special friend Dorothy Berger of Winner, SD.

Frieda was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one granddaughter, six sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Burke, SD. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 PM to 7 PM, with a 6 PM prayer service, at the church.
