Obituary

Frances Irene Smith was born July 30, 1911 to Clyde and Edith (Fee) Fast and she died July 4, 2008 at the Gregory Hospital in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 96 years, 11 months and 4 days. Frances grew up on the Fee family farm southwest of Naper, Nebraska. After graduating from Butte High School, which included normal training, she taught in the local rural schools until her marriage to Everett Smith on March 16, 1934. To this union one daughter, Marilyn, was born. They were married for 70 years. Frances and Everett farmed for several years before purchasing the Farm and Home Telephone Company in Naper, which they operated for many years. She also served as the Postal Clerk for the Naper Post Office for several years. Frances loved to read, sew for her family, travel, play cards (especially pitch), and enjoyed scrabble. She was able to celebrate five generations of the Fee family with the birth of her great-great-granddaughter in 2007. She also witnessed the Fee family farm celebrate 100 years of continuous ownership in 2007. She resided at the Butte Healthcare Center for the last six and one-half years. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; one half sister, Velma Johnson; three half brothers: Floyd, Elvie (Doc) and Harvey Fast. Frances is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Duane) Sieh; her granddaughter, Lora (Keith) Cline all of Naper, NE; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Cline of Solway, MN; one great-grandson, Kurt (Cindy) Cline and her great-great-granddaughter, Rebekah Cline all of San Jose, CA; one half sister, Irene Eddie of Winner, SD. Funeral services will be Monday, July 7, 2008 at 2:30 PM at the UCC Church in Naper, Nebraska. Burial will be in the Knollcrest Cemetery, Naper. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the Church.
