Frances Lorraine Peppel was born May 2, 1938 at home near Brocksburg, Nebraska to John William and Ada Lura (Brown) Higgins and she died May 14, 2019 at the Avera Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 81 years.
Lorraine was the youngest of four children. She attended rural school District #1, Keya Paha County through the 8th grade. She then attended high school in Butte, Nebraska graduating in 1955. She received her teachers certificate while in high school graduating at the age of 17 years and 2 weeks and she immediately started teaching in a country school. She taught for 2 years before attending business college at Grand Island, Nebraska. She then began secretarial work in Winner, South Dakota.
On June 20, 1959, she was united in marriage to Robert Peppel at Jamison, Nebraska. They lived on a farm south of Herrick for two years before moving to the farm near St. Charles. In August, 2015 they moved to Burke and then to the Haisch Haus Assisted Living in March, 2018. She spent the last month of her life at the Rosebud Country Care Center.
Their marriage was blessed with three children: Timothy Robert, Debora Kay and Kevin John.
Lorraine was a Tri Circle Extension member for over 25 years. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bonesteel and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Foxee Ladies Red Hat Organization. She enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards, gardening and flowers. She had a wonderful gift from God with the ability to play the piano and organ by ear and she loved to share this talent with family and friends. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Robert; her children: Timothy Robert (Juli) of St. Charles, SD; Debora Kay (Keith) Heinrichs of Citrus Heights, CA; and Kevin John of Winner, SD; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Melissa (Cody) Vosika and Brecken and Austin of Gregory, SD; Mitchell (Valerie) Peppel and Hadley, Mckinley, Landon and Ainsley of St. Charles, SD; James Heinrichs of Citrus Heights, CA; a sister-in-law, Helen Higgins of Butte, NE and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Max Higgins, sister-in-law, Janet Higgins; brother, Mervin Higgins; sister, Joyce Stahlecker and brother-in-law, Howard Stahlecker.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bonesteel, SD. Burial will be in the Rosebud Cemetery, Bonesteel. There will be a rosary & scripture service on Monday at 7:00 PM at the church. Visitation will be one hour prior to both of the services at the church.
