Obituary

Fortunato (Willie) Tamayo, age 84, of Council Bluffs, passed away January 10, 2011, at home with family and friends at his side. Willie was born August 12, 1926, in Kingsville, Texas, to the late Bartolo and Juana (Sosa) Tamayo and grew up near the Georgetown, Texas area. He came to Council Bluffs, in 1960. He retired from Blue Star/Con Agra after 34 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Tamayo; and sister, Antonia (Tamayo) Ochoa. Willie is survived by wife of 48 years, Beulah (Buckman); sons, Christopher (Rick) Tamayo, of Council Bluffs, Steve Tamayo and wife, Mary, of Rosebud, S.D., Michael Tamayo, of Council Bluffs; daughter, Angela Kling and husband, Thomas, of Council Bluffs. He helped raise his twin granddaughters, Nicole and Becky, of Omaha, Neb.; along with 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Lupe Stevens and husband, Don, of Council Bluffs, Helen Duncan, of Sidney, Iowa, Jane Cardenas, of Jasper, Ala.; brother, Ferman Tamayo, of Sidney. A Rosary service will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at Queen of Apostles Catholic Church with Rev. Dan Kirby officiating. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in rural St. Charles, S.D. Family will direct the memorials.
