Evelyn Fischer was born April 11, 1917 at Waubay, South Dakota to Hans and Katherine (Guelig) Hansen. She died March 1, 2011 at the Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 93 years.
Evelyn was the fourth child, with two brothers and one sister that were older and one younger brother. After a few years the family moved from Waubay to Dallas, South Dakota on New Years Eve of 1920. Five more children were born to the family in Dallas. Evelyn attended school in Dallas and graduated in 1935. She married Walter Fiebelkorn in the fall of 1935. Walter and Evelyn always lived in the vicinity of Dallas and Gregory. They had six children: George, Bill, Vivian, Glenn, Ken and Don. Walter passed away in 1961.
Evelyn married Harry Fischer in 1963. They operated a country store, the West Carlock Store. They later added a dance hall, which they operated for more than twenty years. Harry passed away in 1993. Evelyn sold the business that same year and she retired to Gregory.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; three sisters and four brothers; as well as two children: Vivian and Glenn.
Evelyn is survived by her children: George and wife Ada of Exira, Iowa; Bill and wife Bonnie of Spokane, WA; Ken of Gregory, SD; Don and wife Diana of Gregory, SD; her daughter-in-law, Sherry Fiebelkorn of Guthrie Center, Iowa; her son-in-law, James Clifford of Omaha, NE; two sisters: Caroline and husband Melvin Vedral of Dixon, SD; and Margaret Werner of Omaha, NE; seventeen grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke, South Dakota. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery of Burke. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, with a prayer service at 6:00 PM, at the funeral home.
