Erliene Anna Mutt Cerny was born July 22, 1917 at Hawarden, Iowa to Arthur and Dora (Jorgenson) Hendricks and she died September 26, 2006 at the Winner Regional Health Care Center Nursing Home in Winner, South Dakota at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 4 days.

Erliene Mutt was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burke, South Dakota. She was united in marriage to Joe Cerny on May 25, 1940 at Sacred Heart. They then moved to Inglewood, California and resided there until 1944. It was then that they returned to South Dakota and moved to a farm southwest of Herrick, South Dakota. From 1955 until 1998 they lived on a farm west of Herrick. They owned and operated a gracery store in Herrick from 1965 until 1974. In August of 1998 they retired to Burke.

Mutt was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society, was employed for several years in the office at the Burke Livestock Auction as well as at the Gregory County Court House.

Mutt enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and visiting with relatives and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mutt is survived by her two daughters: Joan and husband Jack Kaney of Madelia, Minnesota; Carol and husband Vern Haffield of Winner, South Dakota; three grandchildren: Leslie Smith of Yankton, South Dakota; Troy Kaney of Adel, Iowa; and Kevin Kaney of Bluffton, South Carolina; nine great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Ella Laur of Colorado.

Mutt was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 29, 2006 at 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burke. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. There will be a rosary on Thursday at 7:00 PM at the Church. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the services at the church.
