Emil Kerner, Jr. age 67, of Centerville, SD, died Saturday, October 17th at the Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg, SD. Emil John Kerner was born December 8, 1947 in rural Tripp County to Emil and Mary (Beavers) Kerner. He received his education in Gregory, graduating from Gregory High school. On May 20, 1967, he was united in marriage with Cheryln Klein at Gregory, SD. Emil was employed with Buches grocery store in Gregory. The couple lived in Hartford, SD where Emil worked for West Sioux Grocery and Highland Potato Chip Co. and later moved to Dillon, MT, where he and Cherlyn had the Paradise Inn. They moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where Emil worked for Select Motors until the time of his death. Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Ronelle (Kelly) Opland of Flandreau, SD, Dana (Rolando) Flores, of Sioux Falls and Emily (Frank) Russo of Centerville, SD; his grandchildren, Nicole, Brittany, Jared, Kyle, Dillon, Isabella and Mason; and his great grandchildren, Antonio, Daniela, William, Camila and Andrew. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Anna Kerner and Charlene Wiedeman, his brothers-in-law, Keith Swedlund, Keith Klein and Brendon Klein; many nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Gwen Oakland, Josette DuBois, Tim Jenkins, and Don and Janet Rea. Emil was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cheryln, both parents, one brother, Ron Kerner; and three sisters, Mary Swedlund, Betty Swedlund and Helen Svoboda. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location. A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, October 24th at the Clausen Funeral Home in Burke, SD with interment to follow in the Herrick Cemetery, Herrick SD.
