Edith Oliver was born July 4, 1924. the daughter of Rine and Hannah (Mayer) Deering. She died September 28, 2018 at the Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 94 years.
Edith grew up in the river hills east of Lucas, South Dakota. She graduated from Gregory High School and attended business school in Mitchell, South Dakota. She was united in marriage to Lyle Oliver and together they operated the Texaco Station in Burke, the Hillcrest Motel (1959), the Hillcrest Inn (1966), Platte and Snake Creek Marinas. She was also a dispatcher for Gregory County and was a bookkeeper for Klufa's Grocery. She served on the Burke City Council, Eastern Star and the VFW women's Auxiliary. Edith enjoyed trips to Phoenix, bus trips with Jenny Moyer, and visits from her grandchildren.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; her brothers, Edwin (Red) and Harry Deering; and her great-grandchildren, Rhadd, Ranya and Reeve Oliver.
Edith is survived by her sons: Lawrence (Kathy) and Eugene (Carolyn); her grandchildren: Beth (Todd) Halsne, Tom (Yuda) Oliver, Brett (Tammy) Oliver, Jennifer (Todd) Keffeler and Josh (friend Danielle Bay) Oliver; her great-grandchildren: Rhett, Ridge, Rhoss, Ravyn Oliver, Adrianna, Huttson, Kassidy Weeldreyer and Shayde, Elixy Keffeler and Kiley Wiedeman.
Thank you to all who have shared their lives with Edith and Lyle over the years, she will be missed dearly.
