Obituary

Duane Charles Herman, 59 of Rapid City, SD passed away August 11, 2016 of an apparent heart attack at his home. Funeral services will take place.

Duane was born on January 17, 1957 to Leslie A and Violet L (Tietgen) Herman in Burke, South Dakota. Duane joined brother, Larry to complete their family.

Duane grew up on the family farm near Fairfax, South Dakota. He attended school in Fairfax and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1975.  He attended University of South Dakota at Springfield and obtained his Associates of Applied Science degree in Electronic Communications in 1977.  He worked for a short period of time in Platte, SD then returned to Fairfax to build houses with his best friend Dewey Ludemann.  During that time he enjoyed playing softball with his friends and gained the nickname Bucky.

On February 25, 1989 he married Lili M Denholm and they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where he worked at the Chapel Hills Sears store for three years.  Their daughter Shantel Lea was born on June 16, 1990 just in time for father's day.  Darci Lyn joined the family on May 19, 1992.  In September 1993 the family returned to South Dakota to be closer to family.  They chose Rapid City as their home.  Duane transferred to the Rapid City Sears store and worked there until he decided to sell Mac Tools in April 1995.  On August 24, 1995 Jaycee Rae joined the family.

Duane enjoyed spending time with his family and was very active in his children's lives with coaching in soccer and softball.  He enjoyed attending all the girls sporting events and supported them in their other endeavors in music and academics.  If they needed help with science or history he was the man.  He spent many hours helping them improve their skills with softball, being involved in the Harney Little League and Rapid City ASA.  He enjoyed, in recent years, watching his daughter Darci compete in softball for Black Hills State University and his daughter Jaycee compete in softball for Presentation College.  The past two years he enjoyed helping to coach his granddaughter Claire's T-ball softball team.

Duane continued to sell Mac Tools for 20 years, he retired from the business on April 1, 2016.  He worked at Walmart since April and worked for DOT starting in May 2016.
