Dorothy Mae Wells died on Friday March 4, 2011 at the Community Memorial Hospital at Burke South Dakota.
Dorothy was born on July 18, 1935 at Bonesteel, South Dakota to Roscoe & Zola (Gormely) Creekmur. She grew up and went to school in the Bonesteel area. Bonesteel was always home with many fond memories and friends.
Dorothy married Vernon Wells on June 26, 1954 at Burke, South Dakota. They moved to Burke and she started working at the Burke Hotel and Café, then she went to work at the Community Memorial Hospital as a Nurse's Aide and later transferred to the medical records office for 30 years. In 1993 she went to work at the Lake Andes Health Care Center as the Medical Records Clerk until June of 2010 when she retired to take care of Vernon. Dorothy was a very dear friend to all the residents and staff of the Lake Andes Health Care Center.
Vernon and Dorothy raised their family of two daughters and one son, plus worked with Board & Parole and became foster parents in 1967 to which they opened their home to 77 precious children.
In the summer time her days off were spent working at the golf course as the club manager, she had a passion for golf. Any sports events that her children, grandchildren or great grandchildren were playing in she was sitting on the sidelines encouraging them. But all kids in the area were important to her. She loved working in her yard watching the birds from her window, especially to see the first Robin in the spring.
Dorothy was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary of Burke, the Catholic Daughters and the Altar Society.
Dorothy leaves to mourn her daughters Eugenia and husband Jim Fuhrman of Bassett, Nebraska; Regenia and husband Jerry Shanahan of Burke, South Dakota; sons, Kevin Wells and wife Pam of Lake Andes, South Dakota and Ron Bruns of Burke, South Dakota. She had 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one sister Francis Johnson and husband Dean of O'Neill, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews.
