Obituary

Dorothy Jean Waterbury was born July 27, 1924 at Burke, S.D. to Pearl Nancy and John Victor Jackson. She passed away March 8th, 2008 at the Gregory Nursing Home in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 12 days.

Dorothy was born to a family of four brothers. She attended rural school through grade school and went to high school in Colome, S.D. She graduated high school in 1942. Dorothy attended Springfield Teachers College (Southern Normal School) and graduated in l943. She taught grade school south of Colome, South Dakota where she and George met and married June 13, 1945. They latter moved to a farm south of Burke which became their home for many years.

She substitute taught for approximately another ten years. After her years of teaching, she retired to be a fulltime mother and homemaker. She was a continuous member of the American Auxiliary in Herrick

Dorothy was confirmed into Grace Lutheran Church in 1951, making this her lifetime spiritual focus. She always had time to help and nourish family and friends. This became the focus of her life.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; her daughter, Dorothy Joy Bruns; her grandson, Donald and infant Krueger; her brothers Don, Daryl and infant brother Jackson; her sisters-in-law: Irene Campbell, Viola Waterbury, Mildred Waterbury and Sarah Jackson; her brothers-in-laws: Walter and Orville Waterbury and Wilber Campbell.

Surviving her are Dale & Carol Jackson of Escondido, CA; John Waterbury and his wife Toni of ONeill, NE; Diane Krueger and husband Jim of Huron, SD; Beverly Allen of Storm Lake, IA; Dale Bruns and Mary of Gregory, SD; Grandchildren David Bruns and wife Lisa of Gregory, SD; Richard Bruns and wife Kim of Gregory, SD; Jennifer Combs and husband Brent of Gregory, SD; Jeanne Bartling and husband Jason of Gregory, SD; Alicia Robinson and husband Randy of Saint Louis, MO; Annie Johnson and husband Justin of White Lake, SD; Rebecca Whittmeier and husband Cory of Burke, SD; her great-grandchildren: Jacob and Jessie Bruns, Johnny, Blake and Bryan Combs, Jaden and Jay Cee Bartling, Courtney Vosika and Kyza Johnson, Caden Whittmeier, Dorie and Riki Bruns, Ellie Mae Robinson and her sister-in-law, Helen Waterbury of Burke, SD as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 10:30 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Burke, SD. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 PM, with a 7:00 PM prayer service, at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke.
