IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Lee
Frank
October 18, 1931 – September 22, 2019
Dorothy Lee Potthoff was born to Leo A and Vivian (White) Potthoff on October 18, 1931 at St. Charles, South Dakota. She died September 22, 2019 at the Butte Healthcare Center in Butte, NE at 87 years old.
Dorothy went to school in St. Charles through the 6th grade, and graduated from Burke High School in 1949. Following graduation, she worked at the Health Department in Pierre, the Buy-Line in Burke, Burke State Bank, and the Gregory County Court House as Deputy Clerk of Courts. June 11, 1955, she married Elmer Wayne Frank. They made their home in Englewood, California, where she worked for The Englewood Board of Realtors as their Bookkeeper. January 1961, they moved back to a farm southwest of Bonesteel. She cooked for the Head Start program for 2 years. In 1976, they purchased the Bonesteel Super Saver from Howard and Aileen Brown. They operated the store until June 1982, when they sold their inventory to their oldest son, Steve. Dorothy continued helping Steve until October 1994, when she retired.
She was a member of the Calvary Bible Church in Bonesteel, and later joined the Union Baptist Church in Burke. She also was a member of the Bonesteel women's club, where she was instrumental in getting street signs in Bonesteel. Dorothy was known for her love of cooking and baking for guests who entered her home. It was a rare occurrence for someone to leave with an empty stomach.
Wayne passed away November 25, 2005 and Dorothy remained in her home in Bonesteel until June 2008, at which time she moved to Burke. She was active in the Senior Center and volunteered at the Burke Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Center. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren's church and school programs, as well as sports activities. Dorothy especially enjoyed attending the boy's and girls' basketball games in 2013, when both Cougar teams won district's, and the boys' team made it to state. May 1, 2015, she moved into Country View Manor in Butte, NE.
Dorothy is survived by daughter Stacy (Craig) Zeisler of Naper, NE, son Jim (Dulce) Frank of Wayne, NE, daughter-in-law Kristal (Mark) Holbrook of Fort Townson, OK, 6 grandchildren Derek (Amanda) Zeisler of Hastings, NE, Jamie (Bob) Nordstrom of Wahoo, NE, Micaela (Turner) Serr of Mitchell, SD, Mackenze Schauf-Benter of Las Vegas, NV, Tyler Frank of Denver, CO, and Jaicee Frank of Vermillion, SD, along with 4 great-grandsons Lane and Cash Nordstrom, and Zach and Alex Zeisler. She is also survived by twin sisters, Bernice (Ed) Pravacek of Sioux Falls, SD and Bernita Howe of Iowa City, IA, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne and son Steve.
