Obituary

Doris Marie Anderson, 81, of Bonesteel SD passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD.

Doris Marie Staebell was born April 28, 1939 in Humboldt, SD to Edward and Naomi (Even) Staebell. She attended St. Ann Catholic School and graduated from Humboldt High School. She worked at John Morrell in Sioux Falls for 10 years.

Doris married Donald Anderson on January 24, 1968 and the couple made their home in Doon, IA. They had 3 daughters, Melissa, Nancy and Shelli. Doris worked as a postal clerk before becoming Doon's Postmaster, a position she held for over 22 years until she retired in 1999. Following her retirement, she and Don moved to South Dakota, and currently reside in Bonesteel, SD.

In her younger years, Doris was an avid softball player and bowler, often bowling many nights a week and participating in tournaments spanning across many states. Throughout her life, she enjoyed being on the water with her family, usually out-fishing everyone. Doris had a passion for sports and often she could be found watching (and officiating from her chair) Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings games. Doris attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bonesteel, SD. Her husband, children and grandchildren were the joy of her life.

Doris will be sadly missed by her husband of 53 years, Don; their three daughters; Missy Van Beek (Dan Reid) of Sioux Center, IA, Nancy (Mark) Verburg of Rock Valley, IA and Shelli (Nate) Vander Schaaf of Sioux Center, IA; 10 grandchildren; Ryan (Kendra) Van Beek and Tyler Van Beek, Jenna and Mitchell Verburg, Kennedy and Kyle Kooi, and Grace, Gavin, Izabel and Kullen Vander Schaaf; great granddaughter Nora Van Beek; 3 sisters; Shirley Lawrence, Barbara Kautz and Nancy Hyronimus, all of Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, James, Thomas and Michael Staebell; one sister, Marlys Gould; two brothers in law, Jerry Lawrence and Dale Kautz; one niece, Julie Anderson; and an infant daughter.

A private family memorial service and burial are pending.
