Dora Mae Poor Man Yellow Hawk,92,of Herrick, SD passed away Sunday, December 26 at her home.
Dora Mae Poor Man Yellow Hawk was born on August 28, 1918 to Annie Poor Man at home southwest of St. Charles.
After the death of her mother and two year old sister, she was raised by Grandpa & Grandma Cane.
She attended the day school at Milks Camp and Marty Indian School.
She married Christopher Yellow Hawk on July 8, 1935 at Burke, SD. To this union a daughter, Mercedes Rose, was born.
She worked various jobs including the spud fields in Clark, topped sugar beets in Belle Fourche and worked at the Milks Camp Industries. She also worked at Yankton Sacred Heart Hospital and in Hastings, NE in a bomb factory.
She loved to sew on her old treadle machine, and sewed many star quilts for people by hand.
She liked to go to pow-wows and made many friends.
We thank God for blessing her with 92 years with us.
She leaves to mourn her only daughter Mercedes, her grandchildren; Barb (Ivy) Timber, Ron, Judith, Judy (Neil) Hanson, Byron Sr. (Brenda), Arlene, & Kevin, her great grandchildren; Amber, Erica, April, Curtis, Ashley, Brandon, Barron, Brandi, Byron Jr., Courtney, & Kristy, her great-great grandchildren; Chasity, Lindsey, Dillon, Kaylee, Faith, Gian, Dereka, Aaron, Alijah, Brayden, Tehya, Araya, Bryson, Sienna, & Laveyah.
She is preceded in death by her mother Annie, sisters; Evelyn and Mamie, her husband Christopher, her great grandsons, Derek Yellow Hawk and Wilson Andrews, her great-great granddaughter Faye Yellow Hawk, her brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.
Funeral services for Dora Mae Poor Man Yellow Hawk, 92, of Herrick, SD will be held on Wednesday, December 29thth at 11:00 AM at the United Church of Christ in Bonesteel, SD. Burial will be in the Ponca Creek United Church of Christ Cemetery. Wake services will begin on Tuesday, December 28 at 11:00 AM and continue until service time at the church.
