Donald Dwayne Baldwin was born May 24, 1926 at Bonesteel, South Dakota to Rubin and Frieda (Schroeder) Baldwin. He died April 2, 2019 at the Butte Healthcare Center in Butte, Nebraska at the age of 92 years.
Don grew to manhood on the family farm south of Bonesteel and attended country school. He graduated from Bonesteel High School in 1943. On January 9, 1950 he was united in marriage to Shirley Unglaub and they farmed east of Bonesteel until his induction into the armed forces during the Korean War. After basic training and schooling on the signal corps at Camp Gordon, Georgia he was transferred to Fort Meyer, Virginia. He and his wife moved to Annandale, Virginia and he worked for a year in the Communications Department of the Pentagon. He was then transferred to Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands where he remained until his discharge.
Upon returning home, he purchased land north of Bonesteel and went back to farming and ranching, which he loved. He continued operating his ranch until he entered the Haisch Haus and later the Butte Healthcare Center in 2013.
Don is survived by his daughters: Rhonda of Phoenix, AZ and Debra and husband Dan Herrmann of Marshall, MN; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; his nephews Michael and Tim Baldwin, several cousins and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the Calvary Bible Church in Bonesteel. Burial will be in the Rosebud Cemetery, Bonesteel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Because of Don's love for his community, In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bonesteel Fire and Ambulance Departments.
