Obituary

Dolores Jean Schock was born April 29, 1928 in Stuart, Nebraska to Francis and Rose (Timmermans) Higgins and passed away June 15, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Bloomfield, Nebraska at the age of 89 years.

Dolores grew up on a ranch in the rural Brocksburg area.  She attended country school and then high school at St. Mary's in O'Neill, Nebraska.  She continued her education at Wayne Teacher's College and graduated in 1949.

Dolores married Donald R. Schock, August 14, 1951 in Long Pine, Nebraska.  They made their home at the Schock homestead near Naper.  To this union three children, Robert, Daniel and Andrea, were born.  Along with being a farm wife, homemaker and mother, she taught school for nearly 40 years, the majority of that time at the Naper Public School Dist. #21, touching the lives of hundred's of students, K-12 grades.

After her retirement, she and Don enjoyed traveling on several trips throughout the United States.  Donald even convinced Dolores to like fishing on the boat and to tolerate camping on occasion.  Dolores enjoyed sewing, quilting and embroidery as well as gardening, canning and baking, especially pies.  She belonged to the Catholic Church, most recently St. Andrew's in Bloomfield.  She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #8256 in Naper.  After Don's passing in 2006, Dolores moved to Bloomfield to be closer to family.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Donald; parents, Francis and Rose Higgins; sons, Daniel in infancy and Robert; brother and sister-in-law, Patrick Higgins and Bonita Higgins Roth; sister and brother-in-law Loretta and Paul Gengler; brothers-in-law, George Alexander and Melvin Schrader.

Dolores is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Joe Abbenhaus of Bloomfield, NE; daughter-in-law and friend, Joan (Bruns) Schock and Ron Durbon of Adrian, MN; 7 grandchildren and spouses: Jenny Schock, Arin and Kevin VanderLindin, Ashley Schock, Roland and Emily Schock, Tyler and Mary Abbenhaus, Kylie Abbenhaus and Eric Abbenhaus; 6 great-grandchildren, Heather, Brooklyn, Kaylyn, Macy, Tenlee and Grayson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Vivian Alexander, Neita and Wayne Andersen and Phyllis Schrader, as well as many nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Ss Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Butte, NE.  Burial will be in the Baptist Cemetery, rural Naper.  Visitation will be Sunday from 5 PM until 7 PM at the Church.
