IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dewayne Paul
Matucha
March 10, 1943 – July 27, 2020
Dewayne P Matucha (Mook) was born March 13, 1943 to Paul and Doris (Rogers) Matucha. He was the oldest of five siblings. He died July 27, 2020 at his home.
Dewayne grew up on the family farm five miles north of Burke attending country school and Graduating from Burke High School in 1961. During high school he played for the Bulldog Football team. It has been said you would never find a kinder, more easy going guy, yet tougher than anyone around. Donny recalls trying to wrestle Mook, he ended up running between his legs or jumping on his back. After Graduation he joined the army on March 30, 1965 and was stationed in Alaska, he was discharged due to the death of his father and returned home in January 5 , 1967.
Dewayne took over the family farm, raised cattle and put up hay over the years. He kept his equipment running and lasted for years, was a very frugal man and repaired his equipment when most would have given up on it. Looking around the farm his welding skills can be seen on homemade gates made of various recycled items. He could often be found pulling out a stuck fisherman or playing video lottery.
Dewayne was a member of the Burke VFW Post
Preceding him in death are his parents Paul and Doris Matucha, his brothers George Matucha and Virgil Rogers and sisters Florence, Lorna, and Judy Matucha, his nieces Sarah Matucha Sheldon and Brenda Rogers Hoffman and nephew Dan Michael Matucha.
Dewayne is survived by his sister-in-law Mary Matucha of Burke, Nephew George Matucha (and Devon) of Pierre, SD, Nieces: Kristina (John) Carlson of Burke, Amy Jo (Toby) Snyder of Martin, SD, Erin Matucha of Burlington, IA, Ann Matucha (Devar) of Pierre, SD and Lorna (Andy) Duryea of Lexington, NE, Bonnie Quinn of Rapid City SD and Darcy Prins of Hardwicke, MN. Many great nieces & nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
