Obituary

Deanna Darlene Lingenfelter was born as the youngest child of William and Mildred Lingenfelter on November 14th, 1938, at home, near Brocksburg, Nebraska. As a four- year -old; she and her family moved to a log home, near the Keya Paha River. Deanna attended District #1 School in the country and then high school in Springview, NE; graduating in 1956.  Later that same year, she met her future husband, Kenneth Kahler, Herrick, SD, at a dance in Naper, NE. They were married on March 9th, 1957, and moved to the Henry Kannenberg farm south of Burke, SD.

During 10 years of living in South Dakota, five of six children were born: Debra, Larry, Russell,  Tony, and Brenda. In 1967 the family moved to Wisconsin, where the youngest daughter, Linda, was born. After dairy farming in Wisconsin for 14 years, Kenny and Deanna moved to Missouri to continue farming for 7 years and then moved back to the Kannenberg farm in 1988.

During all her years, as a farm wife, you would find Deanna either outside helping with the many chores, gardening, and cooking up meals for whoever would stop by. Coffee was always on; served with the delicious meals/desserts that she would have ready. Playing cards were always by the table; ready for a good round of Pitch; their favorite game to play with visitors. Grandma never forgot to send out the hundreds of Birthday and Christmas cards over the years. Deanna was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamison, NE, for many years.

Deanna is survived by her 6 children: Debra (Rick) MacDonald, Hermosa, SD; Larry Kahler, Parker, SD; Russell Kahler, Hartville, MO; Tony Kahler, Berger, MO; Brenda (Dale) Pounds, Houston, MO; and Linda (Byrain) Boes, Burke, SD., 19 grandchildren, and 52 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law.  Preceding Deanna in death was her husband of 66 years; Kenneth R. Kahler; father and mother William and Mildred (Calkins) Lingenfelter of Bassett, NE; 1 sister Mildred Shepperd; 3 brothers, William (Bill) Lingenfelter, Denton (Mac) Lingenfelter, and Merlon Lingenfelter, and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.

Our mother/grandmother's spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion she shared with everyone she met. Blessed be her memory.
