David Harold Graber, 78, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on February 12, 2015, at his home in Sioux Falls.
David was born on July 8, 1936, in Cleveland Ohio. His given name was Harold Wagner and he was taken to the Berea Children's Orphanage where he was adopted four years later by Arlo Graber and Edith Velma (Orr) Graber and they changed his name to David Harold Graber.
David enlisted in the Army at 16 years old with his father's consent and was stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY and served in the military for 14 years which included duty in the Korean Conflict. He served with the 101st Airborne (Screaming Eagles) and the 82nd Airborne Division and also with the 503rd Infantry Regiment and was later assigned to the U.S. 11th Airborne Division. David was an expert marksman and had 257 total parachute jumps and 30 combat jumps. He was with the Special Forces recon team that scouted out and destroyed bridges.
David met Beverly (Lewis) Hughes in Denver, CO, in 1977 where he was an over the road truck driver for Wicker Freight. David and Beverly were married on March 17, 1978, in Burke, SD, at her parent's home. They moved to Sioux Falls, SD and they drove for Allied Van Lines and then the Sather Cookie Company. They would have celebrated their 37th anniversary next month. David and Beverly enjoyed all the states they visited while trucking and David loved hunting, music and all his family and friends.
David is remembered with love and survived by his wife, Beverly, his biological children, daughter Candace Lynn Lobianco (Niagara Falls, NY); daughter Debbie Hall (North Tonawanda, NY); daughter Beverly (Carl) Hall (Niagara Falls, NY); daughter Kimberly (Jim) Galie (Filmore, NY); son David (Susan) Graber (Coram, NY); Donna (Kenny) Langon (Mahopac, NY); and daughter Candace Ruth Graber (Denver). His step-children, Stephany (Richard) Shaheen (Winner, SD), Roberta (Kim) Thompson (Salt Lake City, UT), Jon (Susan) Hughes, Jr. (Winner, SD), James Hughes (Winner, SD), and Kimberly (Bryan) Hespe (Winner, SD).
His grandchildren and great grandchildren, Salvatore "Bee" Lobianco & wife Jina (children Valentino, Kiara & Madison), William Lobianco & wife Elizabeth (children Riley, Dayven, Giovanni and Luciano), Nino Lobianco (children Antonio, Domonic, Vincent, Santino and Trevor), Randy Litten, Ayla Hall , Devon Hall, Dominique Welsh & husband Brendon (children Briana, Meganne, Carl Jr. & wife Candance, Jillian, Jeffrey, Kaden, Ashton and Isabella), Christopher Brandon & wife Evonne, Camryn Brandon & Christopher Brandon, Jr., Melissa, Christina, Krystnor, Kahlissa, Joseph & Samantha. Step-grandchildren, Spencer (children Randi & Griffin), Hailey & Morgan Hughes, Felicia, Jon III, Arthur and Pete Hughes and Hattie Hespe and the many family members from the Orr side of the family from Ohio.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. There will be a prayer service on Thursday at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Visitation will be one hour prior to both of the services at the funeral home.
