August 27, 1929 – December 8, 2016
Darrell Warren Roggow was born August 27, 1929 at Burke, South Dakota to Willie and Ione (King) Roggow. He was the third of seven children, five boys and two girls. He passed away peacefully on December 8, 2016 at the Luther Manor Hospice in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 87 years.
Darrell grew up on a farm one mile east of Lucas, South Dakota, where he continued to live for almost 85 years. He moved to the Haisch Haus in Bonesteel, South Dakota in September of 2014.
Darrell attended the Gregory Assembly of God Church for most of his life. This is where he met his future wife, Naomi Parish. They were married in January of 1951 and had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in January of 2016. To this union four children were born: Douglas, Lynnae, Kerri and Kami. In their later years they attended the Lucas Baptist Church.
Darrell was raised on the farm and chose also to pursue farming for his life career. He entertained many with his stories of growing up on the farm. He was a good student in high school and graduated from Burke High School as Salutatorian in 1947. He was involved in FFA in high school and received state recognition for his achievements.
He enjoyed farming and ranching. He had a network of friends who worked cattle together. There were many happy memories of enjoying hearty meals after working cows and the fellowship with friends. Darrell and Naomi spent many hours playing Rook, Wahoo and Racko with family and friends. He retired from farming in 2005.
Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi; his parents, Willie and Ione; his brothers: Vilas, Stanley, and Larry; his sister, Avis; his grandson, Trenton Winter and his nephew, Dwight.
Darrell is survived by his children: Douglas and wife Nancy Roggow of Ipswich, SD; Lynnae Grubbs and husband George of Gilbert, AZ; Kerri Winter and husband Mike of West Des Moines, IA; and Kami Ellerbroek and husband Bryan of Sioux Falls, SD; eleven grandchildren: Holly Roggow, John Roggow, Joshua Grubbs, Krisann Mayfield, Deanna Mendoza, Dana Davis, Kassandra Winter, Derrick Winter, Kalise, Sophia and John Ellerbroek. He is also survived by her fifteen great-grandchildren, one brother, Calvin and one sister, Darlis.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Union Baptist Church in Burke, SD. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. There will be a visitation on Sunday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke.
