Obituary

Cody's Funeral Service will be Live-Streamed through Clausen Funeral Home & Cremation Services Facebook page.

Cody Dean Vogt was born on November 26, 1990 in Gregory, South Dakota to Ronald and Deborah Vogt. He was their third child and only son. Cody was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Herrick, South Dakota. He was confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jameson, Nebraska.

Cody graduated from Bonesteel High school in 2010. He loved working in the concessions during high school games and received a scholarship from the school for all of the time he put in helping the school. While in High School, Cody worked for John Ziebro at the Bonesteel Supper Club where he loved visiting with people and helping his brother-in-law with the restaurant.

After graduating from high school, Cody attended Mitchell Technical College and obtained an Associates Degree in Agricultural Science in 2012 and he worked summers on the family farm building his own herd and preparing for his life farming and ranching which was his true love since a very young age.

Cody also worked for many ranchers in the area helping them with their herds. Cody was often called upon to help out friends and neighbors and never turned down a request to help anyone who was in need.

In October, 2021 Cody met Logan Marie Behnk and they were married on June 1, 2024 at the family ranch south of Herrick, South Dakota. Together they made a home in Herrick where they enjoyed raising many different types of animals.

On August 3, 2025, they welcomed their baby boy Royal Klaus Vogt into the world. Cody loved his role of being a husband and a father, and did his best everyday to provide for his young family. Being an excellent first time dad he was never afraid to change the worst of diapers and was always willing to feed or console his son in the middle of the night no matter the hour. Cody’s devotion to his wife showed no bounds. He supported her completely in making all of her dreams come true, was her rock in hard times, and was always a shining light of love and hope for her. Cody often spoke to friends and family about the dreams he had for Logan and Royal and was actively working to build the family farm just as he had always dreamed of ever since he was a very young child.

Tragically, on December 8, 2025, Cody’s life was cut short by an automobile accident resulting in an incredible loss to everyone that knew and loved him. Cody was so actively involved in all of his friend’s and families lives and spent time each day helping others or lending a listening ear at Bernie’s in Herrick where he loved to go and talk with others. Cody also loved spending time with his family during the holidays and loved playing board games and visiting with extended family talking about ranching. Cody was especially proud of his son Royal and deeply loved his wife Logan and had so many dreams for their lives together. Though they weren’t married long, their love and marriage embodied the true meaning of partnership by embracing every facet of the life they were building together. Every memory they made will be forever cherished.

Cody touched the lives of every person he met and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of all the people that knew and loved him.

Cody is survived by his wife Logan, his son Royal, his mother and father Ron and Debbie Vogt, his two sisters Becky Ann Vogt (John Rusch) and Susan Rae Baer (J.R. Baer), grandmother Dorothy Hein, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services for Cody Vogt, age 35, of Herrick, SD will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the City Hall in Bonesteel, SD. Burial will be in the Herrick Cemetery, Herrick, SD.
