Clara Neumiller was born December 6, 1915, the fifth child , of eight, of Dietrich and Lydia (Mayer) Ahlers, in a log house on her parents farm 5 miles west and 2 miles north of Naper, NE. She went to grade school at District 60 located about 1 and one half miles west of the home place and then graduated from Naper High School as valedictorian in 1934. After high school she went to summer school at Wayne State Teachers College and then taught country school for 2 years.
Clara married Rudolph Kulm on July 1, 1937. Rudolph and Clara farmed in the Naper area for several years. Four children were born to this union. Son Ronald and wife Arzella Woerpel (6 children) , son Gerald , son Ralph and wife Janice Boyd (3 children) and daughter Genene and husband Ray Sand (2 children). Ralph and Janice were divorced and Ralph married Linda Cerveny in 1999.
Claras husband Rudolph had health problems and was institutionalized for many years. Clara raised her 4 children while living on the farm where she grew up. Clara divorced Rudolph in 1961. She married Chris Neumiller in 1962 and lived with Chris in Naper for over 23 years until his death in 1985. Clara continued to live in Naper until 2003 at which time she moved to the TLC assisted living at Burke, S.D.. In 2006 she moved to the Haisch Haus at Bonesteel, S.D..
Clara enjoyed music, gardening, sewing, playing cards and visiting relatives and friends. She had a special love of children. Her church was very important to her.
Clara passed away November 24, 2007 at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 18 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Rudolph Kulm and her second husband Chris Neumiller, her brothers: George, Otto and Henry Ahlers, her sisters: Emma Speckles, Helen Lacy and Anna Hagel.
She leaves to mourn her death, 1 sister: Frieda Voll and husband Stan of Redwood City, CA; 4 children: Ronald Kulm and wife Arzella of Fairfax, SD; Gerald Kulm of Stuart, NE; Ralph Kulm and wife Linda of ONeill, NE; and Genene Sand and husband Raymond of Dallas, SD. , 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and the families of: Mrs. Findrew Nelson (Edna, deceased), Mrs. Lyle Fuhrer (Esther) of Naper, NE; Herman Neumiller of Naper, NE; Lester Neumiller of Fullerton, NE; Paul Neumiller of Bonesteel, SD; and Louise Zink of Naper, NE; with a total of 24 step-grandchildren, 46 step-great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 10:30 AM at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Naper, NE. Burial will be in the St. Pauls Lutheran Cemetery, Naper. There will be a prayer service on Monday at 7:00 PM at the Church.
