Obituary

Clairen Dean Hogg was born March 28, 1930 at Faulkton, South Dakota to Henry and Carrie (Vensand) Hogg. Clairen passed away at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the age of 82 years.

Clairen attended elementary school in Miranda, South Dakota and he graduated from Faulkton High School in 1948. In 1952 he enlisted in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1955, with numerous medals. He was a life member of the VFW Post 3179, Masons, York Rites and Yelduz Shrine.

In December of 1956 he was united in marriage to Jeannette Soule and to this union four children were born: Patricia Ann, Robert Dean, Nancy Jean and Jerald Lee.

After leaving the family farm, he moved to Gettysburg, South Dakota where he was owner and operator of the Gettysburg Livestock Sale Barn. Upon his retirement they moved to Spearfish, South Dakota and in 1995 they moved to Burke, South Dakota to be closer to family. He resided here until his sudden death from cancer.

Clairen was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed fishing with his many friends in all the right fishing spots. Especially going in the boat with Kelly and Jeannette Frank, and fishing for catfish with Duane Davis. He also cherished the times he spent at Ft. Thompson with his sons and grandchildren. He was a great gardener, and could always be seen at Whispering Pines tending to the flowers.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Henry and Carrie and his sister, Karen Rusten.

Left to mourn are his wife of 55 years Jeannette of Burke, SD; his children: Patty (Jerry) Jones of Burke, SD; Robert (Lyla) Hogg of Parker, SD; Nancy Lee of Ortonville, MN; and Jerry Hogg of Gettysburg, SD; his grandchildren: Sarah (Tyler) Hotchkiss, Erin Hogg, Scott Jones, Allan Hogg, Adam Hogg, Amanda Lee and James Lee; his great-grandchildren: Arnold Hotchkiss, Tyler Hotchkiss, Jr. and Raegan Jones; his sister, Gayle Benning of Denver, CO; his brother Daryl Hogg of Faulkton, SD; his aunt, Evelyn Matter of Sioux Falls, SD along with a host of nieces and nephews.
