Charles Everett Umberger was born December 6, 1915 on his parents farm east of Burke, South Dakota to Charles J. and Della (Allred) Umberger and he died October 16, 2006 at the Avera Gregory Health Care Center in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 10 days.
Charles lived east of Burke all his life. During this time, he was a rancher until his semi-retirement when he started a new career. He was a sales representative for IDS securities for 20 years. During this time his team had several record sales years.
Charles graduated from Burke Elementary and attended Burke High School for three years until he decided to go to work. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards and dice, and visiting with family, friends, and customers. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Charles is survived by his wife, Mildred, three children: Dwaine and wife Susan of Herrick, SD Shirley Kruse and husband Orland of Rapid City, SD, and Donald and wife Yvonne of Burke, SD. He also has eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He still has one living sister Dorothy, a brother, Ivan and a host of nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Della; three brothers: David, Earl and Ralph, and two sisters: Ethel and Edith.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 20, 2006 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burke. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. There will be a rosary on Thursday at 7:00 PM at the Church. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to both services at the Church.
