Obituary

Charles William Oliver was born March 22, 1949 in Springfield, Massachusetts. to Ronald and Henrietta Oliver. He passed away June 18, 2017 at the age of 68 years old at Osmond General Hospital. Charlie spent his elementary years in school in Massachusetts. He arrived in Burke, SD during his middle school years to live with Lyle and Edith Oliver upon the death of his parents. He enjoyed sports. In high school he played basketball and football for the Burke Bulldogs. After graduation from high school he moved to Omaha, NE where he lived for 30 years. During this time he worked for Lozier as a tool and dye maker. He was married to Linda Kuchera in 1968 and later divorced. He was married to Judy Redemske in 1975. To this union he adopted Todd and Rick ages 5 and 7. He and Judy were later divorced.  In 2006 Charlie moved to Osmond, NE. On January 17,2007 he married  Janet (Labahn) Loecker. They remained married until the time of his death.

Charlie had a variety of hobbies. He loved rooting for the Chicago Cubs and the Nebraska Corn Huskers.  He and Janet enjoyed riding a triked out motorcycle and took many trips. Their adventures included destinations such as Illinois to meet a distant cousin that he had recently met through an ancestor search.  The motorcycle had to be sold when Charlie's health started to fail. This  resulted in sadness on Charlie and Janet's part and relief on their family's part. During his life Charlie  had traveled to 48 of the 50 states.  Charlie and Janet also traveled to many places including Hawaii, Montana, Las Vegas, Branson, Arkansas, the Black Hills,  and the music festival at LeMars Iowa.   He also enjoyed fishing. Charlie and Janet would take the boat out on the Missouri River. He also like to fish on the lakes and ponds around Osmond. He would be proud of the fish that he caught. He often pulled up to the Osmond Hospital with the boat in tow to have Janet come out and see the catch of the day.  He loved to camp. This resulted in their camper being permanently parked at Larson's Landing in Yankton, beside very good friends Eileen Johnson and Bob Gillis. It was often noted that if anyone would want to visit Charlie and Janet they could find them at the campground. They spent every summer there. Hot and spicy food was Charlie's favorite he always said, "The hotter the better".

Charlie had a deep love for music. He loved to play his guitar with friends at Larson's Landing Campground. His special friend Bob Gillis was an inspiration to him. Charlie would not play music with anyone else. The corner on the campground at Larson's Landing rocked with folk tunes and old time music. The rule was it didn't matter how good you sang just so you sang. Anyone who stopped by to visit at the campground was required to sing. The true spirit of Charlie came through when they participated in Jam sessions. In this spirit we will honor Charlie with a jam session. Everyone is encouraged to sing .

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Ronald and Henrietta. He is survived by his wife Janet. His sons Todd and Rick. His step children Elizabeth Bailey (Jeremy Hoek) and their children Kasi, Kylan, BreeAnn, Brooklin, and Baylee. Teri Schoenefeld (Weston) and their children Danielle and Landon. His sister-in-law Mary (Bruce) Bonrman. His brothers-in-law Al (Gena) Ratermann and Bernie Ratermann. Good friends Bob Gillis and Eileen Johnson. Along with a host of friends and relatives .
