May 21, 1972 – May 13, 2024
Chad was born May 21, 1972 at Winner, SD to Martin Garneaux Sr. and Almeda "Rose" LaPointe, he was the oldest of 13 children.
Chad had four children: Kalvin Bird of Yankton, Tulaire (Lyle) Bird of Mitchell, Kristen (Nathan) LaPointe of Mitchell and Chad (Melanie) Lapointe Jr of Kenel, SD, a step daughter Vilencia St. John of Crow Creek and a step son Carl Makes Him First of Rapid City, SD. Chad graduated from Bonesteel Fairfax High School in 1992 then moved to Norfolk, NE to work on grain bins for a few years. He then returned home to take care of his mother and siblings.
Chad married the Dolly (Bird) LaPointe and with this marriage they adopted three grandchildren: Jayden and Kiana Makes Him First and Tatius "BooBoo" Bird. They also took in anther grandchild, Zintkana St. John.
Chad had a very special bond with his grandson Gerrith Andrews and he connected with his granddaughter Martha Miller. Martha was very sick at the age of 20 days old and her papa never left her side, until she was ready to go home with family.
Chad had a whole lot of grandchildren that he loved and cherished very much that is too many to name.
Chad loved to play all kinds of sports such as softball, bowling, darts, horseshoes, beanbags, baseball, fishing and many more, He loved Madd Dogs softball and Vegas Boys because if his relatives Wesley an Barney Andrews.
Chad worked various jobs, he was a man of all trades! He loved teaching his grandkids and other children how t play T-Ball, softball , Kick ball and learn how to beat the drum.
He had way too many friends and relatives from across the state. He became uncle to the horse riders up in Standing Rock. His very special friend he watched grow up from a young guy to graduating high school in 2024. His name is Ian Reed of Crow Creek, he used to call Chad his Papa Chad.
Chad also became close to 3 very special unique ladies named Katherine "Katie" Kirkie, Roxanne Sazue and Nancy Hunter. They would visit and pray with him.
Chad also loved his uncles Loren LaPointe, Bryan Red Buffalo and Alfred Old Lodge very much. He had 2 special aunties Shirley Old Lodge and Frances Williams who he cherished very much. He loved his grandma Winnifred Andrews and Rita Carlson with his whole heart.
He is survived by his wife Dolly, his children, sisters and brothers, aunties, uncles grandmas and grandpas and many cousins and nieces and nephews.
Chad passed away from cancer at Firesteel Health Care Center in Mitchell, SD. He will be with his mother Almeda "Rose" LaPointe, his brother Glenn LaPointe, uncles Pierre and Marvin LaPointe, aunties Regina Bad Horse, Jennie Miner and grandmother Jojo LaPointe and many other relatives.
Funeral services for Chad LaPointe, age 51, of Bonesteel, SD will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Bonesteel City Hall. Burial will be in the Ponca Creek UCC Cemetery of St. Charles, SD. There will be wake services that begin on Saturday and continues until the time of services at the hall in Bonesteel.
