Obituary

Jerry Buzz Lee Schonebaum was born April 20, 1952 in Burke, South Dakota to Walter and Phyllis (Kirsch) Schonebaum and he died July 24, 2005 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota at the age of 53 years, 3 months and 4 days after a long battle with cancer.

Buzz was raised on the family farm southwest of Bonesteel with his two brothers and sister. He attended Bonesteel Public School where he excelled in academics and athletics. After graduation, he went to explore various jobs throughout the Midwest. It was during this time that he built many friendships. After a few years of travel he returned to the Schonebaum homestead where he engaged in farming.

Buzz then married the love of his life, Brenda Schmitz, and to this union four children were born. Living on the farm he taught his children what was important in life: family, hard work and laughter. Throughout the years, he owned a seed business, raised a variety of livestock and also worked various construction jobs. He had the most amazing green thumb and always had an abundant garden that showcased his talent. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends.

Buzz is survived by his wife, Brenda of Bonesteel, SD; his children: Brock and wife Angie and son Kaden of Brookings, SD; Jeri Lynn Quiring and husband Jamie of Alexandria, MN; and Philip of Bonesteel, SD; his grandmother, Tracy Blume of Burke, SD; his mother Phyllis Schonebaum of Bonesteel, SD; his sister Joy Schonebaum of Bonesteel, SD; two brothers: Joe of Burke, SD; and Jeff of Bonesteel, SD; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Buzz was preceded in death by his grandparents; his son, Miles Joseph; and his father, Walter.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bonesteel. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Naper, NE. There will be a rosary on Tuesday at 8:00 PM at the church. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to both services at the church.
