Obituary

Burr Marion Faust was born December 7, 1915 at Burke, South Dakota to Frank and Martha (Mertzke) Faust and he died May 13, 2005 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 6 days.

Burr grew up in the Lucas area attending grade school at the Smith rural country school. He graduated with the class of 1934 from Lucas High School. In the summer of 1942 he enlisted in the military service and, after reporting to duty in Omaha, Nebraska, Uncle Sam decided some of the boys needed to stay back and run the farms, and he was granted a farm release.

On December 27, 1942 he was united in marriage to Leona Wetzler of Herrick, South Dakota and to this union two daughters were born. One of Burrs favorite expressions was - he enjoys making a field of black - and when asked what his hobby was, he always said, farming. He was involved in many activities - being on the church board, the school board, an active Gideon member, and Toastmasters. He enjoyed giving, traveling, and visiting, and he never met a stranger.

Burr was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Louise Estes and two brothers: John and Harry.

Burr is survived by his wife, Leona of Burke, South Dakota; two daughters: Kathleen Heatherman of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Jeannie Faust of Gillette, Wyoming; one sister-in-law, Bea Faust of Mitchell, SD; a niece and a nephew and many friends.
