Neumiller
June 25, 1932 – August 8, 2020
Betty Mae Neumiller was born on Saturday, June 25, 1932 near Fairfax, South Dakota to John and Emelia (Wolf) Odenbach. She was the youngest with four brothers and grew up on the family farm in the Missouri river hills northwest of Fairfax. She attended Spotted Tail Rural School near the farm.
On Saturday, July 1, 1950 she was united in marriage to Herman Chris Neumiller in Yankton, South Dakota. Together they purchased their farm southwest of Naper, Nebraska and lived there for 64 years before their home was destroyed by fire on December 16, 2014. To this union five children were born.
She and Herman then lived at the Good Samaritan Society in Atkinson, Nebraska . Betty Mae and Herman were married for 66 years until Herman passed away on May 8, 2017, Betty Mae continued to live there until her passing on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the West Holt Hospital.
Over the years, Betty was involved with the Extension club, Naper VFW auxiliary, TOPS, and 4-H club. She sold Avon, worked in laundry at the Butte Nursing Home and finally at the Naper Grocery Store. Betty Mae was always crocheting and knitting. She made numerous baby blankets and hundreds of pairs of slippers. She enjoyed dancing, cooking, her many cats and dogs, but most of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by four children: Dale (Sandy) Neumiller, O'Neill; Hale (Janet) Neumiller, O'Neill; and twins Darcy (Darrell) Hoffard, Sac City, Iowa; and Dion (Rebecca) Neumiller, Broken Bow. Six grandchildren: Melissa Neumiller, Norfolk; Melinda (David) Wirges, Norfolk; Tygh (Alex) Goochey, Ainsworth; Michael Neumiller, O'Neill; Collin Hoffard, Sac City; Caleb Hoffard, Sac City; eleven great grandchildren; Bailey Colman, Harliegh Colman, Kailey Wirges, Braeden Wirges, Emma Wirges, Kinsely Wirges, Maddie Wirges, Brielle Wirges, Amelia Neumiller, Kira Goochey and Haisley Goochey. Along with many nieces and nephews.
Betty Mae was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Betty; husband Herman; her parents; and four brothers, Edmond, Harold, Benjamin and Harry.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the UCC Church in Naper, NE. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery in Fairfax, SD. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a 7:00 PM prayer service, at the church.
