Obituary

Bertha V. Nagel was born June 18, 1911 on the family farm west of Stuart, Nebraska to Andrew and Sarah (Moon) Johnson and she died April 18, 2010 at the Butte Healthcare Center in Butte, Nebraska at the age of 98 years.
Bertha was united in marriage to Melvin Riley and to this union one child, Dorothy, was born. They later divorced. She owned and operated her own restaurant. There she met and married Laurence Nagel on May 1, 1954.
Bertha was the Avon salesperson in Naper and the surrounding area for many years. She taught all of the grandchildren how to drive on her Avon route. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for over 50 years and served as their district president. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, flowers, making quilts and knitting slippers for the family.
Bertha is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Cline of Naper, NE; her sister, Ethel Bacon and husband Herb of Wentzville, MO; her grandchildren: Leann Schultz and husband Bob of Naper, NE; Shelly Thompson and husband Milt of Atascadero, CA; Connie Breeden and husband Tom of Atascadero, CA; Jolene Schaaf and friend Ken of Staurt, NE; and Colleen Schaffer and husband Ron of Newark, CA; eleven great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Laurence; one brother, three sisters, one grandson and one niece. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the United Church of Christ in Naper, NE. Burial will be in the Knollcrest Cemetery of Naper. There will be a visitation on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at the church.
