Beatrice "Joyce" Andrews was born on April 4, 1938, the 7th child to Mercy (Stone Arrow) Andrews/ Jesse Andrews, Sr. At home in Bonesteel, SD on November 11, 2019, Joyce began her peaceful spiritual journey home with her family by her side.
Joyce attended school at Rosebud Boarding School in Mission, SD and Flandreau Indian School.
Joyce spent her childhood years in Bad Nation and Milk's Camp. She worked at Hillcrest Inn in Burke, SD for Lyle and Edith Olivier until she met her husband.
Joyce married Steve Red Buffalo in February 1963. To this union were born 7 children, Brian (Tammy) Sioux City, IA Stephanie – Flandreau, Kevin—Bonesteel, Joy Weigel – Tomah, WI Stephen Jr. – Sioux City, IA Twila—Sioux Falls, and Stacy (deceased)
Joyce moved to Pierre in August 1981 to live with her brother Jesse and family.
Joyce worked various jobs in motels. In 1985 , she began employment at Pierre Indian Learning Center working with students in grades 1st-4th. She worked there until August of 1995.
In 2000, Joyce moved home to Bonesteel to help care for her older sisters Donna and Josephine and to be near her older brother Hampton.
Joyce leaves to mourn her, her children Brian, Stephanie, Kevin, Joy, Steve Jr, Twila and Waylon Gregor. Grandchildren Julian, Chase, Avery, Adrian, Damian, Justin, Jerald, Lavonna, Latonya, Tyler Stevie and Precious. Sisters Rita Carlson and Winifred Andrews—Chamberlain, brother Jesse Jr – Sioux Falls. 26 grandsons, 12 granddaughters and 25 great grandchildren, 12 nieces and 4 nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her youngest son Stacy, grandparents Sarah/Frances Stone Arrow, James/Millie Andrews, Parents Jesse Sr/Mercy Andrews, Brothers Conrad, Dana, Ronald, Marvin, Stanford, Wilfred and Hampton, Sisters Donna, Margaret, Josephine and Caroline and sister in law Helen Andrews.
