Obituary
Audrey Brevik was born January 26, 1930 at Niobrara, Nebraska to George and Sophie (Arneson) Brevik and she died January, 9, 2006 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 13 days.
In 1931, Audrey and her family moved to a farm north of Herrick, South Dakota. She attended the Carroll School # 30 and graduated from Burke High School. After graduation, she attended summer school at Southern State Normal and that fall she started her career in education, which lasted 45 years. During that time she was a teacher, County Superintendent, elementary principal and she received her Masters Degree in Education from Black Hills State College.
Audrey was a member of the Herrick Methodist Church and was involved with the Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, of which she served as the State Chaplain for 2005-2006. She was also active in the VFW Auxiliary and South Dakota Retired Teachers. She enjoyed bowling, traveling and crossword puzzles.
Although Audrey had no children of her own she touched the lives of her nephews and nieces and their children, who loved her and became her family.
Audreys hope was that as an educator, she was a potter and not a sculptor. The sculptor chisels away the unwanted portions, but the potter takes the material and molds it into the desired product.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Phyllis, her brother James, 2 brothers-in-law: Phil and Harold Pense; and 2 nephews: Daniel Pense and Michael Rolf.
Audrey is survived by her sisters: Adeline Pense of Burke, South Dakota; and Ruth Stinton and husband Wesley of Burke, South Dakota; and her many nieces, nephews and their families.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 10:00 AM at the Civic Center in Burke. Burial will be in the Petersen Cemetery, rural Burke. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 PM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke. There will be a prayer service on Friday at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
