Arleta M. Jons-Sage, better known as Pete, was born September 24, 1931 in Bonesteel, South Dakota. She was one of six children, born to the late Emil and Lydia Jons. She died August 6, 2006 in Ashburn, Virginia. She was raised and received her education in the Bonesteel community. She attended Mitchell Business College, Mitchell, South Dakota, and Northern Virginia Community College, Annandale, Virginia.
She was a kind and loving wife, mother of three children, grandmother of six and a friend to many people. Her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. She was united in marriage to childhood sweetheart, Russell R. Sage, with whom she shared 40 years. To this union three children were born, Robert of Charlotte, North Carolina, James of Springfield, Virginia and Vickie of Ashburn, Virginia.
She resided in Annandale, Virginia until her deteriorating health when she went to reside with her daughter and family in Ashburn, Virginia. She devoted her entire life to raising her familythen activating a career. She served and had a wonderful career with the U.S. Army, Pentagon, for twenty years. She retired in 2001, just a month prior to the terrorist attack of the Pentagon building on September 11, 2001.
Pete was baptized in the St. Stephens United Methodist Church, Burke, Virginia, attended and worshiped there for many years. She was active on church committees, serving in the capacity on the Outreach, Fellowship, and Pantry Coordinator committees. She played an active role during the Thanksgiving Dinners for the Homeless at the church. She was instrumental in designing a church calendar with the Outreach Projects in which the church was involved. She loved the Lord and enjoyed working for Him.
Her favorite hobbies included baking and decorating cakes, but mostly always focusing on and helping other people. Her favorite pastime was square dancing.
Pete is survived by her three children and their families: Robert and Melissa Sage, Russell, Katie and Lauren, from Charlotte, North Carolina; James and Melanie Sage, Kristina and Joseph from Springfield, Virginia; and Vickie and Donald Evans, Kelly and Jenna from Ashburn, Virginia, and four step grandchildren, Cory, Cade, Jace and Jordan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Lydia Jons.
Memorial Services were held at St. Stephens United Methodist Church in Burke, Virginia on Saturday, August 12th. Pastor Ted Smith officiated.
Funeral Services will be held at the Calvary Bible Church in Bonesteel, South Dakota on Saturday, August 26th at 10:30am, officiated by Pastor, Reverend Russell Grim. Music will be furnished by her sister and brothers, Ardeth Bachmann, Alvin and Loren Jons, accompanied by Darlene Jons. Hymns to be sung include, In the Garden, Peace in the Valley, Precious Lord, Im going Home at Sundown.
She will be laid to rest in the Bonesteel Rosebud Cemetery, Bonesteel, South Dakota.
Pete always had a smile, cheerful disposition and a positive attitude and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
