Alva L. Hauf was born February 5, 1925 to John and Dora (Stahlecker) Hauf and he passed away August 31, 2011 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota at the age of 86 years.
Alva attended rural school south of Dallas, South Dakota and worked on the family farm until entering the service where he served his country during World War II. In 1941, Alva's family moved to the Lucas area. In 1957 he and his brother Norman began a partnership of farming and ranching.
Alva was baptized in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Burke, South Dakota.
Alva moved to Burke and resided at the Burke Housing and later moved to Whispering Pines, where he resided until his death.
Alva was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dora; six brothers: Helmut, Arthur, Sam, Walter, Adolph and Norman; and five sisters: Edna Mitchell, Anna Wille, Clara Miller, Christina Sears and Frieda Bettcher.
Alva is survived by his sister, Martha Deering of Miller, SD; special friends Jim and Diane Buryanek of Burke, SD; and by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Burke. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
