Alma Helen Hyde was born February 1, 1911 on a farm north of Bonesteel, South Dakota to Joseph and Anna (Sondgeroth) Hausmann. She died December 20, 2008 at the Gregory Hospital in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 97 years.
Alma attended the Catholic School and graduated from the eighth grade. After graduation she helped her parents on the farm, working in the field and helping her mother when needed. She later worked for Bill Opbroek in the Drug Store and then moved on to Arnold, Lexington and Kearney, Nebraska, working in Drug Stores.
While in Kearny she met Francis Hyde, of Brockton, Massachusetts, who was in the Air Force at the time. On April 4, 1944 she and Francis were united in marriage. When Francis was sent overseas she moved to Brockton and worked in several factories.
Francis died September 8, 1969. She then moved to Bonesteel where she made her home until her health failed. She lived in the Haisch Haus and then moved to the Gregory Nursing Home. Alma's hobbies were sewing, keeping her yard beautiful and keeping the Catholic Church spotless.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband Francis, her parents, five brothers and five sisters.
Alma is survived by her sister, Sister M. David of Rapid City, SD; her brothers; Len (Frances) Hausmann of Aberdeen, SD; Don Hausmann of Bonesteel, SD; Harry (Sharon) Hausmann of Denver, CO; and Bob (Coreen) Hausmann of Bonesteel, SD; her sisters-in-law: Sylvia Hausmann of Bonesteel, SD; Frances Hausmann of Pierre, SD; and Gretchen Hausmann of Fairfax, SD; her brother-in-law, Verlon Moos of Fairfax, SD as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 22, 2008 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bonesteel. Burial will at St. Mary's Cemetery, Bonesteel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.
