Obituary

Allen Dwayne Boes was born June 15, 1936 at Burke, South Dakota to Arthur and Erma (Young) Boes and he died April 2, 2021 at the Parkside Manor, with his family by his side, at the age of 84 years.

Allen grew up in the Herrick area and attended the Goodman and Miller schools.  He enlisted in the Army and served from 1954 until 1956, spending his military time in Germany.  He was a life member of the Stuart American Legion Post #115 for 47 years.

Allen started his trucking career at the age of 14, hauling gravel from the river with his dads truck, until they found out how old he was.  He met Lavonne Klein at a dance in Naper, Nebraska, they were married December 21, 1957 and to this union seven children were born.  They farmed in the Butte and Herrick areas.  They moved to Stuart, Nebraska in 1968 and he drove truck for Dan Snyder.  He bought his own truck and drove to 48 states, including Alaska and Canada, everywhere except Maine.  He took his wife and children with him at various times and the all learned to drive his trucks at a young age.  He was a truck driver until he turned 80.

He also bought old tractors and made them run, using them every summer to do the gardening and yardwork.  He loved to tell stories of his trucking days and was always interested in what his family was doing.  There were no strangers to him.  He may not have known their name, but that made no difference to him.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents Art and Erma, a son, Donny in 1992, grandson Kent John Kilmurry, great-granddaughter Tiffany Rose Kilmurry-Keith, sister Beverly (Boes) Wardrip, brother-in-law Gerald Hoover, father and mother-in-law Adolph Klein and Sarah (Klein) Trautman.

Allen is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lavonne; children: Marla (Edward) Kilmurry of Atkinson, NE; Diana (Dan) Williamson of Bartlett, NE; Bruce of Burke, SD; Brent of Valentine, NE; Byrain (Linda) of Burke, SD; and Danny (Shannon) of Valentine, NE; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 more in 2021; sisters: Norma Hoover of Colorado City, CO; Margie (Elmer) Storck of Knob Noster, MO; brothers Robert (Beverly) Boes of Gregory, SD; Dale (Lori) Boes of Orangevale, CA and many nieces and nephews.
