Alice Mae Mitchell was born November 12, 1928 at her home southwest of Naper, Nebraska to William and Anna (Stahlecker) Ullrich. She died April 15, 2009 at the Gregory Community Hospital in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 80 years.
Alice attended rural school in Boyd County, Nebraska and graduated from Butte High School in 1947. She then taught rural school until the time of her marriage to Johnnie L. Mitchell on June 6, 1949 at the Lutheran Church in Butte. To this union five children were born: Lonnie, Michael, Stanley, Kelly and Jo Ellen.
Alice was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Butte. Throughout her married life she had many accomplishments, with one of the most memorable being her years of dedication to the Butte Nursing Home where she was a CNA. She was a deeply devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who had a love for flowers, writing poetry and reading. One of her great joys was time spent with family, be it in person or over the phone.
Alice was known for her loving nature, passing out hugs and smiles everywhere she went. She will be deeply missed. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Johnnie; her parents-in-law; a daughter-in-law and her husbands brothers and sisters.
Alice is survived by her children: Lonnie of Tucson, AZ; Michael (Minnie) San Benito, TX; Stanley (DeMaris) Seward, NE; Kelly (Charlotte) Butte, NE and Jo Ellen (Lee) Of Stuart, NE; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, Dallas (Lavonne) Ullrich of Lakeside, CA; her sister-in-law, Helen Mitchell and brother-in-law, Bill Crawford both of ONeill, NE and numerous other family and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, April 20, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Butte, NE. Burial will be in the Butte Cemetery. There will be a prayer service on Sunday at 7:30 PM at the Church in Butte. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to both services.
