Aldrew Schochenmaier, age 94 of Bonesteel, South Dakota, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2022 at the Butte Senior Living Center in Butte, Nebraska.
Aldrew Schochenmaier was born April 29, 1927 in Boyd County, Nebraska, to Fred and Katie (Wuest) Schochenmaier.
Aldrew attended a country school not far from his parents' home. He volunteered for service in the United States Air Force January 2, 1951. Aldrew was united in marriage to Marjorie L. Jons March 31, 1951. He was honorably discharged November 2, 1953. They returned home to farm near Butte, Nebraska before moving to the family farm south of Bonesteel, South Dakota. He held various offices on boards for several organizations, including Bonesteel School Board, Cenex, Pleasant Valley Township, Roy Garringer Legion Post #36, and Zion Lutheran Church, Bonesteel. He was honored as District 8 Legionnaire of the Year in June 2004. Bonesteel American Legion recognized Aldrew for his dedication and hard work in making the Bonesteel Veterans Memorial a reality. One of his favorite pastimes was playing cards with family and friends. Aldrew and Marjorie moved from the family farm into Bonesteel December 1991, where Aldrew resided until February 2022, when he entered the nursing home in Butte, Nebraska.
Aldrew is survived by his wife of almost 71 years, Marjorie; son Michael (Cindy, dec., and Linda) Schochenmaier, Nancy (David) Bogenhagen, and Neil (Pam) Schochenmaier; grandchildren Ron (Becky) Schochenmaier, Julie (Eric) Skott, Travis (Amanda) Schochenmaier, Katie (Kiel) Buhr, Laura (Brian) Hall, Ben (Brianna) Bogenhagen, Brian (Jenna) Bogenhagen, Luke (Faith) Schochenmaier, Adam Schochenmaier, and Hannah Schochenmaier; step-grandchildren Karri (Tom) Legband, Karman (Darrin) Bjorklund, Kelli Gomez, and Kent (Maribeth) Olson; 19 great-grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren; sister Anna Marie Cahoy and sister-in-law Lila Schochenmaier; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Katie; brothers Edmond, Albert, Henry, Herman, Alvin, and Raymond; and sisters Sarah Brown and Ranatha Burke.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Bonesteel. Burial will be in the Rosebud Cemetery, Bonesteel. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a 7:00 PM prayer service, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bonesteel.
