Elmer Wayne Frank was born to Elmer A and Lynetta (Krambeck) Frank on August 6, 1929, at Lynch, Nebraska. He died November 25, 2005 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota at the age of 76 years.
Wayne attended all twelve years of school at Bonesteel, South Dakota. After graduation he worked for Miller Electric, wiring homes for two years, then for the Gregory County Soil Service staking dams until September, 1951. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he served until September, 1953. He then attended an electronic repair school in Omaha, Nebraska. On June 11, 1955, at the Burke Methodist Church, he married Dorothy Lee Potthoff. They made their home in Engelwood, California for 5 years, where Wayne worked at Hughes Aircraft as Polaris Systems quality control tester. In 1961, they moved back to a farm southwest of Bonesteel. They farmed until 1967, when he became a Star Route Mail Carrier for Vanderhule Moving & Storage carrying mail from Bonesteel to Pierre. In June 1976 Wayne and Dorothy purchased the Bonesteel Super Saver from Howard and Eileen Brown. They moved to town in January, 1978 and continued in the grocery business until June, 1982 at which time the business was closed and their inventory sold to their oldest son Steve. Wayne continued driving the mail truck until he retired in May of 1993.
Wayne & Dorothy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 11th of this year. Wayne was a member of the Calvary Bible Church and the American Legion Post #36 in Bonesteel. Wayne was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed attending every Bonesteel Tiger game possible. He had a great passion for the game of baseball where he played catcher for many years. He also enjoyed camping and attending his grandchildrens church and school activities.
