Life Legacy

Havor Gale Heyden was born January 19, 1934 to William Lloyd and Margaret (Painter) Heyden and died August 22, 2007 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota at the age of 73 years.

Havor was born at home on the Doty place, north of Mills, Nebraska on the Keya Paha River. In 1943 they moved to the Herman place, where he ranched, raised his family and lived his entire life. Havor served in the US Army and did one tour in Korea.

Havor married his sweetheart Carol Hamann in Burke, South Dakota on December 28, 1957 and to this union four children were born.

Havor was well known in the community as a great caretaker of his livestock and machinery. Havor and Carol received the Natural Resource District conservation award for planting several shelter belts on their ranch. He had a great love for a good western book. He could also be seen assisting his wife Carol with many school trips and parade floats throughout the years.

Havor and his family were members of the Jamison United Methodist Church. He served on the church board, the Spotted Tail Cemetery Board and the Spotted Tail School Board.

Havor was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Carol; his parents, Lloyd and Margaret and a sister, Patricia.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Bruce and wife Betsy of Jamison, NE; Jerri and husband Randy Neuharth of Yankton, SD; Brenda and husband David Schaefer of Boca Raton, FL; and Chad and wife Lesli of Jamison, NE. Eight grandchildren: Sierra, Brandi, Joe, Brand, Eric, Skyler, Lauren and Sydney; a sister, Lorraine and husband Wendell Creasey, a brother Harlan and wife Dorothy along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke, SD. Burial will be in the Spotted Tail Cemetery of rural Jamison, NE. There will be a visitation on Friday from 4 to 8 PM, with an 8 PM prayer service, at the funeral home.
